The island of Gran Canaria has a shape of an inverted cone. Due to different volcanic eruptions and the erosion that time has left behind, the island´s orography is mainly formed by steep crags and ravines that travel from the summit and end at the coast.
This route we travel, will cross one of these unique ravines, the largest in Gran Canaria. It starts at the summit (at an altitude of 1,625 metres) and ends in the Northern coast of San Andrés.
The name of this ravine changes depending on which area it crosses.
We will never be alone on our way since elements will walk us on our route this day: The great Volcanic Crater of Tejeda, pine woods, chestnuts, walnut trees, different fruit trees, the volcanic cone of El Montañon Negro- result of the most recent eruption in Gran Canaria, 3,075 years ago, one of the highest crags of the island, a small thermophile forest and the laurisilva (laurel forest)-a big explosion of colour and humidity. They will be our walking friends.
